A New Journey Unfolds: SCIA Launches New Panel of Arbitrators and Hosts Inaugural Training in Qianhai

On 22 March 2025, to mark the 45th anniversary of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) established its new panel of global arbitrators  and held its first training session in Qianhai.

Over 800 arbitrators from China and abroad gathered at the Qianhai International Convention Center, collectively reaffirming their commitment to SCIA's core values of independence, impartiality and innovation.

In his welcome address, Wang Wei, Vice Mayor of the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, emphasized SCIA's role in aligning arbitration practices with the development goals of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

SCIA Council members jointly announced the launch of the new panel, expressing expectations for arbitrators to strengthen international perspectives, uphold ethical standards, and work collectively to enhance both the global influence and credibility of SCIA, while jointly advancing China's initiatives for broader openness to the international community.

Liu Xiaochun, President of the SCIA and Executive Chairman of the SCIAHK, called for adherence to core values of "independence, impartiality, and innovation," urging arbitrators to embody the “Lotus Spirit" rooted in integrity and resilience.

The training session addressed critical topics such as arbitrator conduct and ethics, arbitration rule systems, SCIA case-management systems and the use of AI technologies,  the reconstruction of arbitration procedures, and practices in hearings and award drafting. Kwai Huen Wong, Council Member of the SCIA, made special comments on the rule innovation and mechanism alignment of "Shenzhen + Hong Kong" and "SCIA + SCIAHK".

Shen Sibao, Chairman of the SCIA Council, stressed credibility as the cornerstone of arbitration. He expects everyone to jointly enhance their professional competence and, taking SCIA as a platform, collectively strengthen the international credibility of Chinese arbitration.

Anthony Neoh SC, Vice Chairman of the SCIA Council, concluded by reaffirming the rigorous selection of 2,078 new arbitrators  by the SCIA Council, hoping that the arbitrators who stood out would hold themselves to higher standards. As this year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, SCIA and the new penal of arbitrators will embark on a new journey from the Greater Bay Area to jointly advance the further innovative development of China's international arbitration.
