On 13 June 2025, Dr. Liu Xiaochun, President of the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) and Executive Chairman of the South China International Arbitration Center (Hong Kong) (SCIAHK), led a delegation to visit the preparatory office of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed). They extended congratulations to Dr. Sun Jin, Director General of the IOMed preparatory office, and expressed support for the future work of the IOMed. Both sides agreed to further strengthen in-depth cooperation.

On May 30 2025, the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation was held in Hong Kong SAR. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Approximately 400 principal representatives from 85 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe, as well as nearly 20 international organizations, attended the event. Among them, 33 countries signed the convention on the spot and became the founding member States. As the first international organization headquartered in the Hong Kong SAR, the establishment of the IOMed puts into practice the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter. It will fill the gap in the international mediation mechanism, and it represents an important rule-of-law and public outcome for enhancing global governance.
