On 7 January 2025, Dr. Nicolaas Schrijver, Emeritus Professor of Public International Law at Leiden University, visited the South China International Arbitration Center (Hong Kong) (SCIAHK). Elsie Leung, Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) Council Member, SCIAHK Board Member, and the first Secretary for Justice of the HKSAR, met with Dr. Schrijver, and introduced latest development of International Arbitration in China, and the innovative arrangement of “Twin Cities, Dual Arbitral Institutions”.
Dr. Schrijver has long been dedicated to research in international arbitration and legal studies. He has served as Vice-Chair of the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, State Councillor in the Legislative Division of the Council of State of the Netherlands, Chairperson of the Dutch Senate's Foreign Affairs Committee, and Director of the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies.
The visit was facilitated by officers from the HKSAR Government and SCIAHK Deputy Secretary-General and Secretary of the Board, Li Xiongfeng, among others.
