On 12 July 2025, the Seminar on "Legal Risks and Countermeasures in International Investment and Trade" took place in Xiangtan, Hunan province. The event focused on preventing and resolving China-African international investment and trade disputes.
Yang Wanming, Vice President of the China Law Society, Former Vice President of the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China, and Musakwa Joseph, Justice of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe, delivered opening remarks.
Keynote speeches were given by Zhang Mingqi, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of the China Law Society and President of China Law Society Social Law Studies Institute, and Shen Sibao, Chairman of the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) Council and Chairman of China International Economic and Trade Law Association.
An Xin, Vice President of SCIA, shared the innovative practices in the Sino-African cooperation framework including Joint Arbitration Mechanism, arbitration rules and arbitrator resources, diversified dispute resolution mechanisms, and discuss how these contribute to the high-quality development of China-Africa trade and economic relations through Shenzhen Special Economic Zone's international arbitration services, as well as actively promote legal exchanges and international arbitration cooperation between China and Africa.
Participants, including officials, judges, prosecutors, representatives of arbitration institution, arbitrators, lawyers, and legal experts from China and Africa, explored various topics related to investment disputes between China and Africa, optimization of Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs), tax policy changes in African countries, Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) compliance, data security, intellectual property protection, construction contract management, execution, and dispute resolution, etc.
