FDI Moot Shenzhen 2025 Held in the SCIA Tower, Building Bridges in International Investment Arbitration and Cultivating Young Legal Talents

On 27 July 2025, the closing ceremony of the 2025 Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot Shenzhen (FDI Moot Shenzhen 2025), hosted by the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), was held at the SCIA Tower in Qianhai, Shenzhen. Remaining true to its founding purpose, this year's competition was dedicated to instilling legal talent with international perspectives and advancing the development of investment arbitration in China. This year's event featured the following highlights:

Record-Breaking Scale:

The competition attracted a record high of 44 teams from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong SAR, and Macao SAR, setting new benchmarks in both the number of participating teams and matches. Participating universities from Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR included the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), and the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST). This robust participation vividly demonstrates the vibrant atmosphere of legal rules coordination, institutional connectivity, and talent exchange across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Upgraded Law Firm Support:

SCIA specially designated exclusive exhibition booths for the law firms supporting this year's competition. By setting up booths and offering consultation services, the firms comprehensively showcased their professional expertise and service strengths, providing a rich platform for career development opportunities accessible to young legal talent.

After multiple rounds of intense competition, the team from Fudan University Law School claimed the Championship. Chak Fung Charles CHAN from the Chinese University of Hong Kong was honored with the "Best Oralist" award. The team from the Chinese University of Hong Kong secured the runner-up position, while teams from Tongji University and the University of Hong Kong tied for third place.

Highlights of the Competitors

"Oriented toward the World, the Future, and the Youth" is the founding principle upheld by SCIA in organizing the competition. In October 2020, SCIA introduced the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot (FDI Moot) to China for the first time, establishing it in Shenzhen and launching the inaugural "FDI Moot Shenzhen." This marked the beginning of Shenzhen as a pilot demonstration zone to start the establishment of an international investment arbitration hub. It has provided strong support for Shenzhen's efforts to cultivate a talent hub within the Greater Bay Area and build a legalized business environment with greater global influence. In 2026, SCIA will host the FDI Moot Global Finals. Moving forward, SCIA will continue to advance the cultivation of young talent in international arbitration and build a globally oriented international arbitration center.
