SCIA Maritime Arbitration Center

On 20 April, 2021, the Shenzhen municipal government approved the official establishment of the SCIA Maritime Arbitration Center as a specialized branch, in line with a decision by the Shenzhen municipal reform committee.

The Opinions of the Supreme People's Court on Providing Support and Guarantee for Shenzhen to Build Itself into a Pilot Demonstration Zone for Socialism with Chinese Characteristics (Document No 39 [2020] of the Supreme People's Court) and the Opinions of the Supreme People's Court on Supporting and Guaranteeing Comprehensively Deepening the Reform and Opening-up of the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone (Document No 3 [2022] of the Supreme People's Court) both explicitly supported the development of the SCIA Maritime Arbitration Center, aiming to build a diversified international maritime legal service hub.

Earlier, on 21 April 2015, the Guangdong Provincial Government, together with the governments of the Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR, inaugurated the South China (Qianhai) Maritime and Logistics Arbitration Center in the Pilot Free Trade Zone. The Supreme People's Court has also consistently supported SCIA's innovative exploration of maritime arbitration rules through this platform.
