SCIA Hosts An Event at London Arbitration Week 2025

On 4 December 2025, the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) was invited to participate in the inaugural London Arbitration Week 2025 and hosted a seminar titled "Recent Development of China's International Arbitration in Greater Bay Area (GBA) - From the Perspective of SCIA", as one of the London Arbitration Week events. The event was co-organised by Three Verulam Buildings, Quinn Emanuel, Oxera and Arbitration Chambers, brought together senior barristers, arbitrators, academics, and industry experts from 15 countries and regions, including the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, China, etc.

Sir William Blair, Member of the SCIA Council, former Judge of the Commercial Court of England and Wales, and independent arbitrator, delivered the welcome remarks. He shared his observations on the historical evolution and latest trends of arbitration in China, highlighted SCIA’s leading position in the country's arbitration landscape, and chaired the roundtable discussion.

During the seminar, SCIA arbitrator Tao Jingzhou presented SCIA's innovative practices from the perspective of an international arbitrator; Peng Yanbing, Deputy Legal Counsel of the SCIA, outlined SCIA's unique strengths in the GBA and the framework of China's newly revised Arbitration Law; Justin Michaelson, Partner at Quinn Emanuel, shared expectations for the ongoing revision of China's Arbitration Law drew on his case-handling experience; Peter de Verneuil Smith KC, a barrister at Three Verulam Buildings, introduced the regional practice and international cooperation of the South China International Arbitration Center (HK) (SCIAHK); and SCIA arbitrator and Oxera partner Dr. Shi Min provided a specialized analysis on the use of expert evidence in cross-cultural arbitration.

The seminar featured dynamic exchanges, with the audience actively raising questions. At the event, SCIA also presented appointment certificates to arbitrators from the United Kingdom.
